Brussels to do its best to finalise Moldova's EU accession negotiations by 1 July - Belgian PM says

Chisinau, April 4 /MOLDPRES/ - Brussels will make every effort to finalise the negotiating framework for Moldova's accession to the European Union by July 1, the date of the end of the EU Council Presidency. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo made the statement. He jointly with President Maia Sandu met with young people of several high schools in the capital to discuss Moldova's future in the EU.

The Belgian official said that Moldova's integration into the European Union is a long-term one. "This process requires an extraordinary effort. A lot of work has been done in recent years, even if the circumstances have been difficult. However, although it takes effort, accession to the European Union is achievable," Alexander de Croo said.

Maia Sandu said that Belgium, one of the six founding countries of the EU, strongly supports our country's aspiration to be part of the big European family.

"Young people will benefit first and foremost from EU membership, which is why it is crucial that their voices are heard, that the choices made today are reflected in the future, in shaping the European Moldova as they want it to be. I urged the younger generation to be active, to get involved and to promote European values, including in this autumn's referendum. European integration is not about politics and parties, European integration is a country project, a project of all, and it is about how the next generations will live - in peace, in a European, democratic, prosperous and safe country", said Maia Sandu.

Alexander De Croo paid a working visit to Moldova yesterday. The official met with Maia Sandu. The two officials also had a discussion with a group of students from several high schools in the capital about the European future of the Republic of Moldova.
