European Commission President arrives in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Chisinau today. The European official had a meeting with Romanian Senate President Nicolae Ciuca at the Chisinau International Airport. Ursula von der Leyen will start her visit to Moldova on 10 October.
Nicolae Ciuca noted that he had discussed with Ursula von der Leyen the support provided to Moldova on the European way and the cooperation on energy security.
„Today, at an unforeseen meeting at the Chisinau Airport, I was pleased to discuss with Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President. Although this was a short discussion, we managed to refer to essential subjects for Romania and the region, such as the support provided to Moldova on its European way and the cooperation concerning the energy security. Such moments remind us how important the dialogue and the solid partnerships with EU are,’’ Nicolae Ciuca said.
On 10 October morning, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will have a meeting with President Maia Sandu. The two officials will make press statements following the meeting.
This will be the first visit to Moldova by Ursula von der Leyen after her reelection, in July 2024, to the office of European Commission’s president for a five-year mandate.
