Moldovan PM, war veterans discuss additional measures of support

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today met representatives of the associations of war veterans from Moldova. The dialogue was focused on additional measures of support for the veterans, provided for in the draft Law on veterans, due to be enforced as of 1 January 2025, the government’s communication department has reported.
The prime minister thanked the working group which had contributed to the working out of the draft law, noting that the government was continuously identifying resources for enhancing the social protection of the population, including the benefits provided to the war veterans. Thus, starting from 1 January 2025, the monthly allocation for veterans will be of 1,610 lei, twice as much against the 2021 year. About 26,400 people will enjoy this benefit.
Additionally, the veterans who participated in two or more wars will benefit, for the first time ever, from a monthly allocation of 348 lei. At the same time, 692 people with disabilities in the wake of wars will receive monthly allocation of 2,254 lei. Increases are also envisaged for other types of benefits enjoyed by the veterans.
The draft law stipulates that the period of participation in combat actions will be included in triple size in the length of service for the pension.
Presently, 27,600 people enjoy social benefits for war veterans. The draft law on the war veterans is to be passed in the second reading at the next parliament meeting.
