National Wine Day held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovans and foreign tourists are expected at the National Wine Day on 1-2 October. After a break caused by the pandemic crisis, the event returned to the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) and is held with the slogan, My Wine Brings Peace, Turns Hate into Love.   

According to the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), about 90 per cent of the wine producers from all over Moldova brought together to present their last years’ achievements.  

Visitors will be able to take part in tastings, master-classes, handicraft workshops, as well as to enjoy a schedule with the most beloved artists of the country.   

The Wine Festival of Moldova, subsequently called National Wine Day, was held for the first time ever in 2002. Traditionally, the event takes place in PMAN and in the country’s wineries in the first week-0end of October, after the grapes’ harvesting. The goal of the action is to promote and consolidate Moldova’s image as an important vine-growing and wine-making state, provide support for the sector’s development, know the wine products, facilitate the process of Moldova’s inclusion in international tourist wine routes, attract investors and tourists, increase the domestic consumption of high quality beverages, take knowledge of the people’s customs, culture and traditions.    

In the context, it is worth mentioning that over 2 per cent of the vine plantations of the world are cultivated in Moldova. It is among the first 20 wine producing countries, being the 13th exporter of the world. The vine-growing and wine making industry is one of the key branches of Moldova’s economy, which has provided, during years, about 2 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product and an income of about 9 per cent of the overall exports. In 2019, the sector exported production worth over 200 million euros. The Moldovan wines are imported by about 70 countries from various regions of the world.
