Chisinau, April 12 /MOLDPRES/- Technical University of Moldova (UTM) will implement a pilot project that will help increase the number of foreign students. A Memorandum of Understanding on supporting the internationalization of higher education in our country was signed today between the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), the Western NIS Enterprise Fund, the Technical University of Moldova and the Development Foundation of the Republic of Moldova.

The project sees that about 200 thousand dollars will be made available to UTM to attract more foreign students, especially from India, in two specialties: IT and Veterinary Medicine.

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that the internationalisation of higher education institutions is one of the strategic priorities of the MEC. "We believe in the ability of our universities to attract more foreign students in order to increase the financial sustainability of the system, to generate additional revenues to be reinvested, including for the benefit of students from the Republic of Moldova. This initiative is a first step in this direction", said Dan Perciun.

UTM Rector Viorel Bostan said that UTM has set the goal of increasing the number of international students. "To this end, we need to ensure that the study programmes are at the highest level, the human resource is prepared to face these challenges, and the university infrastructure meets essential standards," he said.

Around €1 million will be allocated for this purpose under the Higher Education in Moldova Project, implemented by the MEC and funded by the World Bank.
