Moldova to join International Convention for Suppression of Counterfeiting Currency

Chisinau, Dec. 17 /MOLDPRES/- Parliament is to ratify the agreement on Moldova's accession to the International Convention for Suppression of Counterfeiting Currency. Members of the committee on national security, defense and public order examined today the draft law providing for this and will propose the approval of the document at the plenary session.
The agreement will allow cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and other states in order to stop currency counterfeiting both on the territory of our country and internationally. According to the convention, any activities of fraudulent manufacturing or altering of currency; putting counterfeit currency into circulation; bringing into the country, receiving or obtaining counterfeit currency will be considered as criminal offenses.
The draft law also provides for the creation of a central national office, which will work with specialists from the coin-issuing institutions and police authorities to prevent and punish the crime of counterfeiting currency.
The International Convention for the Suppression of Counterfeiting Currency, signed in Geneva on April 20, 1929, has been ratified by several member states of the League of Nations.
