Great departed Romanian poet commemorated in Chisinau at 135th anniversary of death

Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - The great departed poet, Mihai Eminescu, was commemorated in Chisinau today. Writers, teachers, students and pupils paid homage to the poet, laid flowers at the bust to Eminescu on the Alley of Classics from the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden, recited poems by Eminescu.    

The 135th anniversary of the passing away of the great Romanian thinker, prominent representative of the Romanian Literature Mihai Eminescu is marked today.

Dozens of people assembled at the bust to the poet on the Alley of Classics, laid flowers and reiterated the incontestable value of Eminescu’s work.

„Mihai Eminescu is part of my destiny, as I worked as teacher of Romanian language and literature and at each class, I was speaking about Eminescu, his poems, the great personality of Eminescu,’’ Larisa Nedelciuc said.    

The Romanian poet and publicist of universal value was eulogized at the Writers’ House. Poems from Eminescu’s works were recited at the bust of the departed poet.    

„For me, Eminescu means the reading of his books on the eve, getting closer to his poems, his works. For me, these days, 15 January, when Eminescu was born and 15 June, when we say farewell to Eminescu, are holidays of the soul,’’ poet Ianos Turcanu said.   

„Eminescu remains ours forever alive, the symbol of our dignity he is a passport, a crucified God of our culture, who always revives and any homage brings him among us,’’ poet Lidia Grosu said.

The Evening Star of the Romanian poetry, the great thinker and journalist Mihai Eminescu passed away in Bucharest on 15 June 1989. Romanian writer Titu Maiorescu was writing in his diary: ‘’Today, Eminescu died, at the institute of mentally sick, of embolism. The Evening Star of the Romanian poetry, the unmatched poet…’’  

Following 135 years, the death of Eminescu remains a controversial subject, widely discussed by researchers of Eminescu’s life and work, many of whom believe that the poet did not die in natural conditions.   

The poems and the journalism of Mihai Eminescu are perpetuated during time and the generations which alternate appreciate the literary value of his works and the philosophical up-to-dateness of Eminescu’s poems.    

The poem, Luceafarul (The Evening Star) was translated into tens of languages: German, French, English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Arabic and other languages. Gueen Elisabeth of Romania of Romania was among the people fond of Eminescu’s poems. She translated from the poems works in German.     

The poems, Doina and Scriisoarea III (The Letter III) were banned by the Soviet regime, so that Mihai Eminescu was rediscovered in Moldova during the years of national revival and after the proclamation of the Independence.
