Moldovan authorities found solutions to meet full electricity needs

10:53 | 14.01.2025 Category: Economic

Chisinau, Jan 14 /MOLDPRES/- Energocom, together with the operators of the Romanian and Moldovan transmission systems, Transelectrica and Moldelectrica, have identified solutions to cover the shortfall of 484 MWh needed for today, January 14. As a result, there will be no energy shortage for today, Energocom assured.

On Monday, January 13, there was insufficient capacity available at the border with Romania for 16.00-19.00 and there was a risk of emergency power access.

During yesterday evening and night other unused capacities were identified at the Ukrainian border with the EU and transferred to the border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Energocom announced.

Subsequently, Energocom in cooperation with its partners purchased from Romania the energy needed to cover the consumption of the right bank of the Dniester River. "Consequently, for today, we have no energy shortage," Energocom said.

Energocom said yesterday afternoon that on January 14, between 16.00-19.00, the Republic of Moldova will resort to emergency power to cover its consumption forecasts. The decision was taken as it was not possible to fully reserve energy capacity due to the capacity limit of the interconnection with Romania.

As of January 1, 2025, the right bank of the Dniester River is no longer getting electricity from the Cuciurgan power plant, after the Russian Gazprom stopped natural gas supplies to Moldova. Under these conditions, consumption is covered from domestic and imported sources.
