Governor of Gagauz autonomy included in list of sanctions of EU's Foreign Affair Council for '' destabilization actions in Moldova''

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council today included the bashkan (governor) of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia), Evghenia Gutul, in the list of sanctions  for ‘’actions of destabilization in Moldova.’’   

„Moldova faces massive direct attempts from Russia to destabilize the country, as well as challenges arising from Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine," Josep Borrell, the EU's top diplomat, said in a statement. This is a direct threat to a sovereign country, to its democratic life, to its path toward the European Union. The EU will continue providing all its support to the legitimate aspirations of the Moldovan people,’’ the head of the EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said.  

The list of the sanctioned people includes also the deputy of the bashkan, adviser for relations for the media, Mihail Vlah, the deputy head of the Department for foreign affairs of the Gagauz region, Iurii Cuznetov, the deputy head of the executive committee and member of the Gagauz People’s Assembly Ilia Uzun.   .

Also, the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council sanctioned a non-governmental association, Evrazia, with headquarters in Russia, the goal of which is to promote Moscow’s interests abroad and the association’s director and founder, Nelli Parutenco.

The people concerned by the sanctions will make the object of the freezing of their assets in EU and of an interdiction to receive funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly.

The number of the people regarded by the regime of restrictive measures reached 18 (16 persons and two entities).  

„This important step contributes to the consolidation of the resilience and to the combating of the malignant influence in Moldova,’’ Deputy PM, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has said, referring to the decision of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council on the restrictive measures for the destabilization actions in Moldova.
