Over 1,340 citizens cast vote by post in elections

Chisinau, Oct. 18 /MOLDPRES/- More than 1,340 citizens cast their vote by post in the presidential election and the constitutional republican referendum.

Central Electoral Commission (CEC) president Angelica Caraman made the statement today. She pointed out that the process of receiving the envelopes by the electoral offices abroad ended yesterday, at 6:00 p.m.

"1,344 envelopes were received out of the 1,808 sent to voters. The other envelopes, received after this time, will be declared invalid. If the runoff election is organized, the reception of envelopes by people will begin only after the Commission announces the two candidates who will proceed to the second round", said Caraman.

In the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum, voting by post was implemented for the first time in six countries: USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland.
