Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Bucharest officials have conveyed congratulatory messages for the vote given for the European integration and the backing of the democratic values. Even if a small victory was gained, the Moldovans made a step to a better future. ‘’The fate of Moldova must be decided only by its citizens,’’ reads a message by Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis.

The Romanian head of state welcomed the vote for the European integration at the referendum held in Moldova and for the people’s support expressed for President Maia Sandu and the democratic values.

„I welcome the vote for the European integration at the referendum in Moldova and for the people’s support expressed for Mrs. President Maia Sandu and the democratic values. The date of Moldova must be decided only by its citizens!’’ Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis said on the X social network (former Twitter).

Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu congratulated the Moldovans on the fact that ‘’they resisted Russia’s incredible pressures and managed to lead their country to the good side of the history.’’

„The razor-thin result at the referendum on the integration into the European Union is a proof that we must intensify the efforts to persuade the citizens from the province and rural areas, where Russia has more propagandistic efficiency, that Moldova’s future is only to the West. It is obligatory that this result should be doubled by the reelection of Mrs. Maia Sandu for a new presidential mandate,’’ reads the message by the Romanian PM. The official stressed that Romania was fully with Moldova.

Romania will be, in continuation, the strongest supporter of the process of Moldova’s European integration, Romanian Senate’s President Nicolae Ciuca said.

„I congratulate Moldova’s citizens on the vote in favour of the European way! Even if this is a razor-thin victory, this vote is a big step for a better future of Moldova. Romania will be, in continuation, the strongest supporter of the integration process and will make sure that the European money and the European expertise will edify the well-being and security between Prut and Dniester. I congratulate also Mrs. Maia Sandu on ranking first in the first round of the presidential elections. I support her, in continuation, and I wish her from the bottom of my heart to win in the runoff ballot, in order to consolidate the country’s European way,’’ Nicolae Ciuca said in a posting on his Facebook page.

Ciuca noted that the razor-thin result of the referendum’s vote showed the force of manipulation of the Russian propaganda. ‘’It is clear that Russia continues the hybrid aggression against Europe and especially against the East of Europe,’’ Ciuca said. The official warned that the elections due in Romania were the next target of Moscow’s propaganda and launched an urge to the society to reject the division messages. ‘’We must turn down such manipulations; reject the messages of division, the anti-European and anti-NATO messages. The Romanians must vote, in continuation, for the Euro-Atlantic future, for a liberal democracy and for the economic development according to the western model,’’ Nicolae Ciuca added.
