Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - Each honest vote of these elections has proved that the Moldovans defeated a corrupt octopus, which tried to change the results, including the ones of the constitutional referendum. Nevertheless, this attempt failed, taking into account that most voters backed the amendments to the Constitution, which includes the European integration into the country’s Fundamental Law. The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, made statements to this effect following a today’s cabinet meeting.
„We thank the Moldovans from all over the country, as well as those who are settled abroad, for the fact that they went to vote, participated in the elections and the constitutional referendum. The Moldovans’ vote reconfirms the fact that we are a democracy in which each vote really matters.
What we already know is that the majority said YES for our country’s European future. The European Union heard us and welcomed the referendum, the results recorded and the choice made by the people of Moldova on 20 October,’’ the spokesman for the government also said.
At the same time, Daniel Voda thanked those 240,548 Moldovans who had voted at the polling stations set up abroad. He noted that the vote of the Moldovans from abroad also had proved that the Moldovans living abroad actively participate in shaping Moldova’s future and wherever they are, the Moldovans are the ones who decide the country’s fate.
The spokesman for the government also unveiled a top of five countries where most Moldovans had voted. Thus, over 69,000 citizens expressed their votes in Italy, in Germany – over 30,000; in Romania – over 24,000, in the United Kingdom – over 22,600; France – also over 22,600 voters.
„Each vote made history and we repeatedly proved that we do not let the others to decide how Moldova’s future will look. It is our duty to make a correct choice, in the sense of the protection of Moldova’s democracy. We protect the democracy, we protect our future and we protect our right to edify a prosperous society together,’’ Daniel Voda said.
Presidential elections and a republican constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union were held in Moldova on 20 October.
