Moldovan president says if justice does not wake up, Moldova's future in danger for decades

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has denounced an unprecedented attack at the ballot held on 20 October, which strongly vitiated the results. She demanded that the competent institutions get involved and ensure the integrity of the electoral process, yet, stressing that the elections would not be cancelled. The Moldovan president noted that only the Moldovans deserved deciding the country’s future without theft.  

The head of state called on the state’s institutions to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, to make public the evidence about the fraud, to sanction those who are guilty of the buying of votes.  

„Dear citizens, on 20 October 2024, our country was target of an unprecedented attack against our freedom. The state’s institutions assessed and documented networks of purchasing votes. The scope of this phenomenon strongly vitiated the results of the elections.’’ Maia Sandu said.  

She specified that the justice of Moldova during the last years had opposed any cleaning and failed to carry through the big corruption files.

„All people know, only they do not know what was in the bag received by Dodon on behalf of Plahotniuc. Only they do not who are the people who stole the one billion of dollars from Moldova’s citizens. The justice of Moldova did not see how Ilan Shor won the elections in Orhei, in Gagauzia and other local ballots. Without the votes bought, the result would have been different today, there would not have been the emotions related to the results of the referendum. We would have had a clear victory both at the presidential elections and the referendum,’’ Maia Sandu also said.      

The head of state said that she had been informed by the state’s institutions about the existence of a huge network of purchasing votes.

„We were asked whether it is the case not to recognize these elections and organize repeated polls. Yet, the massive, sincere vote of the citizens, who voted with love for country, cannot be cancelled by anybody. In 2020, at the first round of the elections, I received 480,000 votes, while now, after four quite complicated years for the whole country, 650,000 people gave their confidence. At the same time, we must not allow the fulfillment of the scenarios of the country’s destabilization. We go to the runoff elections and we rely only on people, just each time, when the country’s fate was at stake. We count on the mobilization of the people who see that the country is under siege, who see that a Trojan Horse was put in our country. If the justice does not wake up in the last hour and closes its eyes to the country’s sale, Moldova’s future is endangered for decades. The Moldovans deserve to decide the country’s future without theft. Only your vote can defend the country. We save Moldova, as it is our home,’’ the Moldovan president added.
