Irina Rîngaci becomes world champion in women's wrestling

Chisinau, Oct 26 /MOLDPRES/- Wrestler Irina Rîngaci became for the second year in a row world champion in women's wrestling, in the under-23 category.
At this year's edition of the U-23 world championships, held in Tirana, Albania, Irina Rîngaci defeated Russia's Alina Kasabieva 10-3 in the final of the 65 kg category.
Until the final round, the athlete also defeated Rin Teramoto from Japan (2-0), Dilnaz Sazanova from Kyrgyzstan (4-0), and in the semi-finals she beat Shiksha Shiksha from India 10-0.
With this performance, Irina Rîngaci won her second world title, the last of her career in this age group, after taking bronze in 2022.
Head of state Maia Sandu congratulated Irina Rîngaci, as well as Vitalie Eriomenco and Alexandrin Gutu, who became Under 23 world champions. "Our wrestlers continue the tradition of bringing extraordinary wrestling performances. These days, in Tirana, athletes Irina Rîngaci, Vitalie Eriomenco and Alexandrin Gutu became Under 23 world champions. Congratulations, Vitalie and Alexandrin! Congratulations, Irina. We are proud of you and we wish you many more victories to come," Maia Sandu wrote.
Irina Rîngaci is also the world champion in the women's senior event, a title she won in 2021 in Oslo, Norway.
This week, Greco-Roman style wrestlers Vitalie Eriomenco (63 kg) and Alexandrin Gutu (77 kg) became Under 23 world champions. In the finals in Tirana, they defeated Japan's Komei Sawada and Samuel Bellscheidt of Germany respectively.
