Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Transport System Operators (TSO) from Continental Europe have agreed on increasing by about 25 per cent the commercial capacity with Moldova and Ukraine for the 2024-2025 winter period.

According to the European Network of Transmission System Operators, (ENTSO-E), the decision was approved following the destruction of a significant number of power stations in Ukraine and of previsions of a big deficit of electricity for the winter season.

The results of the calculations made allowed increasing the limits of export of electric energy to 2,100 MW, by 400 MW more than at present.

The Moldovan Energy Ministry said that ‘’this significant increase of the export capacity represents a new sign of solidarity and of strong support on behalf of the European community of TSOs for Moldova and Ukraine, seriously hit by Russia’s brutal war.’’

The new export limit will enter into force on 1 December 2024. Starting from March 2025, the TSOs will monthly re-evaluate the commercial capacity between EU, Moldova and Ukraine and will adapt it to the system’s needs and conditions.

ENTSO-E is a European Network of Transmission System Operators. Those 39 TSOs members, which represent 35 countries, are in charge of the safe and coordinated work of the inter-connected electric energy system of Europe – the biggest interconnected network of the world. In the spring of the 2023 year, Moldova and Ukraine finished the process of synchronization to the ENTSO-E European network.

During the 2023 year, the Energocom stock company provided the needed amount of electric energy for the consumers on the right bank of the Dniester river, by purchasing electricity on the domestic market, from the Moldovan power station from the Transnistrian region, as well as from import. The imported electric energy accounts for about 6 per cent (about 250,000 MWh). The energy was bought from Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica and OPCOM of Romania, as well as from Ukrhydroenergo of Ukraine.
