Moldovan government doubling allowance to young doctors hired under Health Ministry's distribution in villages

Chisinau, Oct 30 /MOLDPRES/- One-off allowance offered to doctors, pharmacists and specialists with a bachelor's degree in the medical field, who will be hired according to the Health Ministry's distribution will increase from 120,000 lei to 250,000 lei. The changes were approved at today's cabinet meeting, the government's communication department has reported.

"A lot of investments have been made from the technical point of view in the medical system, and now we are also investing in human resources, so that we have doctors in the villages," Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.

The allowance will be paid in two installments: 120 thousand lei after six months of activity and 130 thousand lei after the third year of activity.

Also, the young specialists will be compensated for the costs of renting accommodation and heating and electricity consumption during the first 5 years of activity, instead of the first 3 years as previously established.

The list of recipients of allowances and compensation will also include young specialists with a bachelor's degree in medicine. 

Recently, the government also approved the Regulation on compensation of transportation expenses for medical and pharmaceutical workers who work in localities other than their place of residence.

The government's measures are aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the medical field and keeping young specialists in the sector, especially in rural areas and regions. In 2023, there were 9,638 doctors and 18,929 - medical staff with secondary education working in the health care system. The shortage of human resources is mainly in primary health care.
