EUROPEAN VILLAGE: Over 2,200 inhabitants of Drochia have access to sanitation services

Chisinau, Nov 15 /MOLDPRES/- About 2,200 residents of Drochia, five public institutions and 20 economic agents have access to the centralized sewage system, after new sewage networks were built in the southeastern part of the town. The works were carried out under the European Village Program and cost 4.8 million lei.
According to the National Office for Regional and Local Development (ONDRL), the initiative provided for the construction of new domestic sewage networks with a total length of 4.5 km, including the execution of related constructions, as well as the connection to the main sewage main.
Drochia mayor Nina Cereteu says that with the implementation of this initiative, the degree of connection of residents to the centralized sewerage system has increased from 58% to about 70%.
"The project to extend the sewerage system in Drochia is an important step in improving the quality of life of the inhabitants. This initiative not only ensures access to more efficient sanitation services, but also contributes to the protection of public health as well as to environmental conservation. In addition, it will stimulate the community's civic involvement in environmental issues. I would like to note that this project is also a positive example of local and central authorities working together to develop their communities," the Mayor added.
For this purpose, the Government, through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development has allocated 4.8 million lei.
ONDRL data reveal that through the European Village and European Village Express programs, 25 local development projects have been carried out in Drochia district, with a total value of about 61 million lei, with direct beneficiaries being about 34 thousand people.
