Spokesman for Moldovan government says cabinet plants more than 200,000 trees

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, informed that the members and employees of the cabinet of ministers today planted over 200,000 trees – oak trees, maple trees and other species, in the Malaiesti settlement, central Orhei district. The action took place within the National Afforestation Campaign.
According to the quoted source, civil servants from ministries and agencies today mobilized in over 400 settlements from all over Moldova, in order to plant trees.
„We are honoured to be members of the Forest Generation, a generation which actively contributes to Moldova’s afforestation. More forests mean fresh air, a clean environment, a sound life for everybody,’’ Voda noted.
He urged the citizens to be part of the Forest Generation as well. ‘’Access the site www.moldsilva.md, choose the fit location and let us contribute together to a greener Moldova, sounder and friendlier for us and for the next generations. We are stronger together!’’ Daniel Voda also said.
More than 26 million small trees will be planted within the national afforestation campaign this autumn. Ministers, civil servants and all people interested plant trees today.
Also, another 440 locations for planting will be available in Moldova within 160 mayoralties, so that citizens from different regions of the country can take part in the afforestation.
According to the competent authorities, new forests will be created in the northern, southern and central regions. Thus, plantings will be made on an area of more than 940 hectares on lands of mayoralties from the districts of Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Sangerei, Glodeni, Falesti, Drochia, Soroca, Floresti, Soldanesti and Rezina.
Presently, the afforested area of Moldova occupies 11 per cent of the country territory, while the degree of afforestation in EU is of 37.7 per cent.
