Chisinau, Nov 19 /MOLDPRES/- Energy Minister Victor Parlicov discussed the prospects of natural gas supply to the Transnistrian region after January 1, 2025, when the contract on gas transit from the Russian Federation to Ukraine expires with Dorota Suliga-Dlouchy, European Union Special Representative in the Transnistrian settlement negotiations.

The sides approached the possible scenarios that Moldova is considering and the measures prepared in the context of natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region after January 1, 2025.

Parlicov said that the Russian Federation has all technical possibilities to ensure the delivery of gas to the Transnistrian region through alternative routes, and in the event that deliveries will be stopped, there are technical possibilities to supply electricity and gas to consumers on both sides of the Dniester River.

In this context, Parlicov informed that the Ministry of Energy has prepared a winter plan with 44 measures applicable to the supply of energy and gas during the cold season. The plan also envisages two major scenarios, one of which is the refusal of Gazprom to deliver gas to the Transnistrian region on alternative routes after the expiration of the transit contract through Ukraine on January 1, 2025.

Chisinau authorities have earlier announced that Moldova is ready for any scenario, even after the gas transit contract through Ukraine expires on January 1, 2025.
