Chisinau, Nov 20 /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan citizens working in Italy will be able to apply for old-age pension, disability pension and other social guarantees. Government approved today the ratification of the agreement between Moldova and Italy on social security signed in Rome on October 31, the government's communication department has reported.
The document offers the citizens two basic benefits - the combination of contribution periods for establishing pension eligibility and a simplified process of applying for benefits.
This will allow Moldovan citizens who have worked in both countries to cumulate periods of work to qualify for pension. As a result, Moldovans with at least 15 years of total contributions in both countries will be eligible for pension in the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, the process becomes more accessible and less costly for Moldovan citizens entitled to Italian pensions residing in the Republic of Moldova. They will no longer have to travel to Italy to apply. Applications for pensions and other social benefits can be submitted both in Italy and in the Republic of Moldova.
Under the Agreement, citizens will be entitled to the following types of social benefits: old-age pension, disability pension, pension and allowance for accidents at work or occupational diseases, survivors' pension.
The Republic of Moldova has concluded 18 bilateral social security agreements. Similar agreements are currently being negotiated with France, Canada, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Albania and Ukraine.
