Moldovan president discusses with British foreign secretary

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today discussed with the head of the British diplomacy, David Lammy, the deepening of the bilateral relations, the regional stability and the consolidation of the democracy in Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, the head of state welcomed the progress made on the agreement on the recognition of the Moldovan driver’s licences in the United Kingdom – a priority for the Moldovan citizens who live in the UK.
President Maia Sandu thanked the United Kingdom for the support provided for the modernization of Moldova’s economy, including in such sectors as development of the business environment, justice reform and the energy transition. ‘’A solid economic partnership contributes not only to our prosperity, but also to the consolidation of the country’s democracy and resilience,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.
The discussions also regarded the economic perspectives. The head of state emphasized the need to foster the joint efforts, in order to stimulate the commercial exchanges between Moldova and the United Kingdom. The elimination of the customs duties for more Moldovan agricultural products and the prolongation of the free trade agreement till 2029 provide a significant potential for the extension of the Moldovan exports and the cooperation for turning to account of these opportunities stays a priority.
The discussions were focused also on the security situation in the region, with emphasis on the international support for Ukraine. President Maia Sandu stressed that Ukraine’s resistance defended not only the freedom of this country, but also the stability of the entire region. ‘’The stability in the region is essential for the safety of our citizens and Moldova’s economic development,’’ the head of state added.
