Moldovan PM has meeting with programme manager of Open Governance Partnership

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today had a meeting with the country and local programme manager of the Open Governance Partnership, Shreya Basu. The officials discussed the measures taken for ensuring a transparent governance and aspects concerning the carrying out of the Action Plan for Open Governance, the government’s communication department has reported.
PM Dorin Recean thanked for the support in enhancing the transparency of the governance act. He noted that the increase in the volume of open data, which can be analyzed by all sides interested, resonated including with the government’s efforts to combat the corruption phenomenon.
At the same time, the prime minister stressed the need to more efficiently organize the already available data, as well as provide education and instruments necessary, so that they it is fully explored.
„To be open means reducing the space for misinformation. We must make accessible an as large as possible volume of data, multiply the communication channels, so that the people can immediately verify the truthfulness of certain information from the public space,’’ PM Dorin Recean also said.
For her part, Shreya Basu appreciated the Moldovan authorities’ capacity to preserve and promote the democratic values in a difficult regional context. Presently, it is essential to: diminish the misinformation phenomenon, promote data on the budgets and procurements; enhance the digital skills in the public administration, as well as further improve the dialogue with the citizens and involve them in establishing the government’s agenda.
The sides also emphasized the importance of the close cooperation between the civil society, academic environment, private sector and public authorities, in order to jointly fulfill the goals of the open governance.
Moldova has been member of the Open Governance Partnership for more than one decade and the fifth Action Plan for Open Governance for 2023-2025 is presently under implementation. The document is focused on the improvement of the access to public interest information, enhancing the transparency of the decision-making process, of the public budgets and procurements.
