PHOTO Moldova adjusts air quality norms to European standards

Chisinau, 21November /MOLDPRES/ - The Environment Ministry carries out a new mission on the air quality component on 18-22 November, assisted by a team of experts from Finland. The mission’s goal is to improve the legislation and the infrastructure for monitoring the air’s quality, with aligning with the European Union’s standards.
According to the Environment Ministry, European experts and local specialists cooperate to analyze the national legislation on air’s quality and its adjusting to the European Union’s standards. The mission’s agenda includes working visits to stations of monitoring the air’s quality from Chisinau, Mateuti and Leova, in order to assess the equipment of monitoring from local stations; they are to come up with recommendations and to elaborate an action plan for the modernization of the legal framework.
„Besides the legislative aspects, experts will hold practical trainings for local specialists, focused on ensuring the quality of data, maintenance and calibrating of equipment. Also, the mission includes the evaluation of the existing environmental data and formulation of solutions its their integration into a modern system, in line with the European requirements,’’ the quoted source said.
This initiative will back Moldova in achieving the environment goals and aligning with the EU standards, contributing to a better quality of the air and to the protection of the population’s health condition. The mission is part of the twinning project, Quality of Air and Environment, financed by the European Union.
