Waste management infrastructure to be modernized in more settlements of Moldova

Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will benefit from a grant worth 4.34 million euros for the modernization of the solid waste management infrastructure. Sixty nine lawmakers today voted a draft on ratification of the Agreement on grant concluded with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the first reading.
Thus, 2.25 million euros will be used for the closing of the deposit of waste from the southern Cahul city. In this settlement, a new deposit, a sorting station and a composting station will be designed and constructed. The sum of 810,000 euros is meant for the purchasing of equipment for facilities of treatment and removal of waste from the Cahul city, as well as for the procurement of equipment for the transfer stations from Cania, Taraclia and Comrat.
Also, 820, 000 euros from the grant’s value will be used for the closing of the waste deposits from the districts of Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, as well as from the districts of Vulcanesti, Ceadar-Lunga and Comrat of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. According to calculations, investments worth about 17 million euros are needed to modernize the waste infrastructure from all these settlements.
The agreement on grant between Moldova and EBRD, signed on 17 September 2024, is to be ratified by the parliament in the second reading as well.
Moldova has earlier concluded with EBRD an agreement on loan, which sees the providing of a loan of 25 million euros for the implementation of the Solid Waste in Moldova project in more regions of the country.
