Chisinau, Nov. 22 /MOLDPRES/- Sweden continues to assist the Republic of Moldova in the training law enforcement bodies in the environmental protection, investigation and examination of environmental crimes. EcoContact, in partnership with the National Institute of Justice (INJ) organized yesterday a training on peculiarities of investigating and examining environmental crimes: forest, hunting and protected natural areas, dedicated to law enforcement representatives, in a Moldovan-Swedish project.
The event brought together practicing judges and prosecutors, including from the territorial subdivisions of the Prosecutor General's Office and judges, providing an opportune platform for capacity building of justice professionals as well as for the development of a judicial system better prepared to face the challenges of combating environmental crimes.
Present at the event, the Head of Development Cooperation Section of the Swedish Embassy, Karin Borovic, noted that the Republic of Moldova, although having valuable mineral and agricultural resources, its natural resources are still limited compared to other nations.
The participants had the opportunity to learn from the experiences and case studies presented by the specialists, deepening their knowledge of the new regulations and challenges faced in investigating and combating environmental crimes. The interactive discussions allowed judges and prosecutors to analyze relevant cases in detail, thus strengthening their capacity to apply the law in an efficient way adapted to the current realities of environmental protection.
The training was organized under the project Green Justice for Protected Environment and Sustainable Communities in Moldova, implemented by EcoContact with the financial support of the Government of Sweden. The main partner is the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova.
