Chisinau, Nov 25 /MOLDPRES/- The third edition of the national contest Wine of Moldova, held last weekend, brought 90 medals to the country's wineries. The results showed that the evaluated wines were appreciated with distinctions, among which 9 - silver medal, 73 - gold and 8 - great gold medal.
In accordance with the international rules of wine competitions organized by the International Organization of Vine and Wine, as well as under stricter conditions, namely wines that were appreciated with 89 - 92.99 points qualify for the Gold Medal, and those that have picked up a minimum of 93 points are appreciated with the Great Gold Medal.
The third edition of the contest - a benchmark event for the wine industry - focused on promoting local varieties and Moldovan selection.
"We encourage the organization of such events because we have notorious experts from the world of wine who come to the Republic of Moldova to taste our wines produced from local varieties. The fact that this competition is held for the third year in a row and even excels, denotes only one thing: the interest in Moldovan Wine is constantly growing, and this is something we are happy about", says Andrian Digolean, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
The contest is organized by the National Vine and Wine Office, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and with the support of strategic partner USAID Moldova, through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Project.
"USAID Moldova has been supporting the wine sector in Moldova for more than 10 years, during which time several projects have been implemented that have helped wineries improve their production processes, identify new markets for Moldovan Wine. Events like the Wine of Moldova contest are a great opportunity for them to identify the strengths and areas that need to be improved for the wines they produce," says Kirk Ramer, USAID Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity in Moldova Project Manager.
The event was conducted under the rules of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, ensuring compliance with recognized global standards. The wines are evaluated on the basis of an automated information system, similar to those used in international competitions, to ensure transparency and accuracy of evaluation.
