Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - I am proud of the fact that the Bessarabian Romanians have come to vote in such a large number – over 80,000 citizens from Moldova expressed their political opinion – an almost twice as much turnout against the first round of the presidential elections from 2019. I am happy that over 80 per cent of them voted for pro-Democratic and pro-European candidates, while the extreme right wing got a tiny small electoral score. Or this fact proves that the Bessarabian Romanians care about the democratic and prosperous future of Romania and Moldova. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu made statements to this effect, referring to the presidential elections held in Romania on 24 November.
„Elena Lasconi, who ranked first in Moldova and Calin Georgescu, an extreme right candidate, who in the past expressed likings for neo-Fascist groups, as well as to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, will fight in the runoff election. At the runoff presidential elections in Romania, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) will categorically support Elena Lasconi and will make campaign for the pro-European candidate. Elena Lasconi is an honest, principled candidate, who will fight for the economic and democratic development of Romania within EU and the NATO. Also, we are confident that Elena Lasconi will back Moldova and will provide every needed support to our country in our way of integration to EU,’’ Igor Grosu noted.
According to the official, who is also the PAS president, it is crucial that the Bessarabian Romanians mobilize more than ever, in order to support Elena Lasconi. ‘’We must protect Romania and Moldova from extremists and politicians with neo-Fascist likings, who admire dictators. Not only the fate of Romania, but also the one of Moldova is decided at the runoff presidential elections. A prosperous Romania, EU and NATO member is absolutely essential for Moldova’s European development. The choice at the presidential elections from Romania is clearer than ever. At the runoff election, we vote for Elena Lasconi!’’ Igor Grosu stressed.
Most Moldovans with Romanian citizenship who participated in the presidential elections in Romania gave their votes for Elena Lasconi. She picked up 56.65 per cent of the votes or 45,590 ballots expressed by Moldova’s citizens.
