Moldova's National Anticorruption Centre, European Public Prosecutor's Office sign cooperation agreement

Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The National Anticorruption Centre of Moldova and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) signed a cooperation agreement in Bucharest today. CNA director Alexandru Pinzari and European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi signed the document. The working agreement will allow EPPO and CNA to exchange information and resources, in order to more efficiently contribute to the investigation and criminal prosecution of cross-border offences.
Under the Agreement, the joint actions of these institutions will be focused on cases related to corruption and fraud as regards the EU funds, as well as on the recovery of crime assets, creating of a legal framework for the sure and efficient exchange of information, data and evidence. This will contribute, to a great extent, to the identification of complex criminal networks which act in Moldova and in the EU member states.
The sides will also consolidate their capacities through exchange of expertise, EPPO being the institution which will provide technical assistance, training and the best practices for CNA, in order to strengthen the institutional capacity to investigate the corruption cases. The agreement guarantees that the resources coming from the financial assistance and development funds of EU are used transparently and efficiently and represent a step forward towards the aligning, in continuation, with the EU requirements in the sector of governance, rule of law state and anticorruption policy, according to CNA.
”This cooperation between EPPO and CNA will consolidate the interaction between the two institutions, will add value to the investigations and will enhance the institutional capacity to combat the offences of corruption and fraud. Such a partnership does not serve only the EU’s financial interests, but also contributes to the wider goals of transparency, responsibility and European integration,’’ CNA director Alexandru Pinzari said after the Agreement’s signing.
A delegation of the National Anticorruption Centre presently participate in the 23rd annual conference EPAC/EACN, held in Bucharest, Romania, and is titled Together for Integrity.
