Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - The first mobile laboratory for monitoring the air’s quality, donated by the National Environmental Protection Agency of Romania, has been brought to Chisinau. Today, Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu, along with colleagues of the Environment Agency, made air quality tests just in the centre of the Moldovan capital. The data was transmitted directly to the Environmental Reference Laboratory and the findings of the analyses showed that no parameter exceeded the admissible limits.
With the new equipment, the findings are available in one hour, unlike the 24 hours needed earlier; this allows quicker monitoring and prompt interventions in the case of detecting critical values.
„Due to its mobility, the laboratory can be moved quickly to diverse locations, including to urban, rural and industrial areas, ensuring the direct monitoring on the ground. It is equipped with an alternative source of energy, which is to allow it working without interruptions even in case of disconnection of power supply,’’ the Environment Ministry said.
Also, the laboratory is endowed with special aspirators for the collection of air, which allow the measuring of the concentrations of volatile organic compounds, such as benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene. ‘’So far, these parameters have not been able to be analyzed at the current automated stations, for the lack of similar equipment. This endowment brings a significant progress in the monitoring of the air’s quality in the environmental protection,’’ according to the quoted source.
The donation of the mobile station emphasizes the close Moldovan-Romanian cooperation for a cleaner environment and sounder life. ‘’This is a symbol of the joint efforts for a greener environment. Romania and Moldova thus consolidate their partnership and reaffirm the commitment for the environmental protection and the public well-being,’’ the principal environmental authority of Moldova also said.
