Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union will be with the Moldovan government and will support it in overcoming an eventual energy crisis. EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks has made statements to this effect at a programme at Radio Moldova.
According to the diplomat, Moldova has made more progress in the energy sector and EU will be with the authorities in this cold season, just as it has been in the last three years, when it provided support worth 240 million euros.
„For us, the energy sector is quite important and it is a sector in which Moldova has made much progress. We are prepared to work with the government and to back it in this crisis; yet, I believe that the responsibility for the eventual crises belongs to Gazprom. We supported Moldova in the energy sector with 240 million euros in the last three winters,’’ the EU ambassador said.
Jānis Mažeiks reiterated that there were discussions in Chisinau and Brussels on Moldova’s needs, noting that he hoped that an eventual crisis would be voided. The official stressed that he still did not know the sum scheduled for supporting Moldova, specifying that he would come up with a figure when it will be decided.
The agreement on transit of Russian gas across Ukraine will expire in the beginning of the 2025 year.
