Moldovan PM chairs meeting of Road Fund's Council

Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today chaired a meeting of the Road Fund’s Council. The participants in the event unveiled the report on the fulfilment of the budget of the Programme on distribution of the road fund’s means for national public roads, for the period January-October 2024, the government’s communication department has reported.
According to the report presented by the State Administration of Roads (ASD), financial means worth about 2 billion lei were allocated for works of maintenance and repair of national public roads this year. Thus sum turned to account in the first ten months of 2024 was of 1.37 billion lei, which accounts for 68.29 per cent. The percentage is to increase till the end of this year.
Most of the sum, 1.08 billion lei, was spent for activities of maintenance and management of national roads, carried out through 12 specialized enterprises of the Drumuri (Roads) stock company. The measures were aimed including at enhancing the road safety, with new road signs, metal parapets set, roundabouts, intersections and crosswalks arranged.
„The investments in the roads’ infrastructure represent a priority, as they eventually prompt the country’s economic growth. The government’s commitment to constantly increase the investments is firm and the pre-accession funds can help us, in this respect,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.
A special subject of the discussion was focused on the national roads’ preparation for the winter period. According to the ASD’s report, all equipment specific for the winter interventions was verified from the technical viewpoint and the stocks of anti-skid materials and technical salt were supplied and distributed to those 39 deposits in the territory. A number of 500 vehicles and road equipment units will get involved to carry out maintenance works during winter – cleaning snow and spreading anti-skid material.
The participants in the meeting also discussed the amendments needed in the Programme on the distribution of the roads fund’s means for the national public roads in 2024 and the hindrances which led to the procrastination of the carrying out of works planned.
At present, the State Administration of Roads state enterprise manages 5,963.2 km of national roads, of which: 631 km of express roads, 2,005 km of republican roads and 3,334 km of regional roads.
