Moldovan government encourages production of fertilizers from local resources, to reduce dependence on imports

Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government today adopted a draft law on the norms of making available of products fertilizers on market. This is an initiative which will back native producers to use including recycled and organic matters for the fabrication of different types of fertilizers, according to the European Union’s norms.
The main goal is to standardize the production norms, reduce the country’s dependence on the imports of fertilizers, as well as to ensure a better work of the domestic market and fair conditions of competition for the producers and importers of products fertilizers, especially for the one manufactured from native raw materials.
„We want the farmers to have access to cheaper fertilizers, produced from organic matters, thus supporting the development of the circular economy. This approach generates benefits for the economy, protects the environment and ensures a sustainable future for our agriculture,’’ Agriculture and Food industry Minister Ludmila Catlabuga said.
The law would also allow local producers to access also other markets, thus stimulating the production, exports and competitiveness of Moldovan products.
According to data by the National Statistics Bureau, Moldova annually imports mineral fertilizers worth about 120.8 million dollars, given the lack of a local production platform.
