Moldovan president has meeting with European Parliament President in Brussels

Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. The officials discussed the next steps Moldova is to undertake on the European integration way.   

Maia Sandu said that she had had a ‘’warm’’ discussion with Roberta Metsola and that the European parliament firmly supported Moldova’s European integration way. ‘’We discussed the next steps we are to take, in order to build a European Moldova, where the people live well, in safety and with dignity. Our partners from Europe are with us and trust Moldova and this gives us power to move forward,’’ Maia Sandu on her Facebook account.    

On 10 December, Maia Sandu and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen discussed the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the European support provided to Moldova, as well as the initiatives which directly improve the citizens’ living. The meeting took place in a context marked by the new composition of the European Commission and the sides emphasized the continuity and the consolidation of the close relation between Moldova and the European Union. At the meeting, the officials agreed on the speeding up of the justice reform and the increase in the European support for this process to ten million euros.   

Maia Sandu also paid an official visit to the NATO’s Headquarters in Brussels, marking the 30th anniversary of the Moldova-NATO Partnership for Peace. The head of state had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The discussions were focused on the regional security, hybrid threats – including the interference with the elections and electoral corruption – and on the need of joint actions for the protection of the democracies in the region.      

On 10-11 December, President Maia Sandu paid a working visit to Brussels – the first visit following the confirmation of the European integration way at the referendum.
