Moldova to negotiate agreement on cooperation in migration with Turkey

Chisinau, Dec. 17 /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Turkey will conclude an agreement on cooperation in migration. The members of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration approved the consultative opinion to start negotiations on the document.
The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation in the field and optimize the management of the migration process in both signatory states. The agreement will establish a mechanism of cooperation in regulating the stay of foreigners, preventing and combating illegal migration, intensifying cooperation in the labor migration, as well as the exchange of information in this area.
The document is aimed at combating illegal migration in compliance with international law and obligations of the state. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Turkey will undertake to ensure and guarantee respect for human rights and confidentiality of personal data known in the process of cooperation.
The agreement will be concluded for a period of five years and its validity will be automatically extended for consecutive periods of one year.
So far, our country has signed similar agreements with five other countries: Ukraine, the Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Swiss Confederation and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
