Moldovan government comes up with recommendations for optimizing consumption of energy

20:18 | 18.12.2024 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government has delivered, through the Energy Ministry, a string of recommendations to the central and local public authorities for the optimization of the consumption of energy. They regard the cutting of the consumption of electric and thermal energy, being part of the government’s efforts of preparation and efficient management of the 2024-2025 heating season.

„We call on the institutions to adopt simple, but efficient measures, such as the use of the natural light, turning off unused lamps, replacement of lamps by LEDs and the insulation of the thermal agent pipes. Time is ripe for each institution to actively contribute to the reduction of the pressure on the national energy system,’’ the spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, said after the today’s cabinet meeting.

At the same time, to reduce the consumption of the thermal energy, decision-makers propose to insulate the thermal agent pipes and monitor the internal temperature, in order to reduce the heating losses; use of electric thermostat valves on radiators, in order to optimize the distribution of heating; inform and motivate employees to rationally use the energy at the place of work, through the maintaining of hardware and doors closed and turn off apparatus which consume energy.

The government’s actions are caused by a 15-per cent increase in the consumption of energy against the last year and by regional uncertainties, as well as the situation of the deliveries of natural gas and the impact of the war in Ukraine on the high-tension power lines.

Daniel Voda said that ‘’energy efficiency is not only a way of cutting costs, but also an act of social responsibility, especially in times of uncertainty dictated by the regional situation and namely Russia’s bombardments against Ukraine, which hit the high-tension power lines and this influences our capacity to purchase cheaper electric energy.’’

„Another uncertainty, announced by the Moldovan authorities, is also the lack of a clear-cut commitment to observe, as of 1 January 2025, the contract on delivery of natural gas to our country’s Transnistrian region by the Gazprom giant, which also belongs to Russia,’’ Daniel Voda also said.

The government urges all institutions to cooperate and become examples of good practices for the citizens.

At the end of the last week, the authorities launched the campaign, Save Energy – Pay Less. At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recean today urged the citizens to undertake measures of saving energy resources.

At the same time, the Energy Ministry issued a circular letter to the central and local authorities, with an urge to enforce concrete measures of optimizing the consumption the electric energy at the public institutions.
