Energocom stock company to buy thrice as much electric energy generated by Cernavoda nuclear power plant

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Energocom stock company will buy thrice as much electric energy from the Nuclearelectrica Company from Romania, which owns the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, starting from 1 January till 31 March 2025. The price of the energy is of about 80 euros/MWh. Representatives of the two companies today signed a new contract to this end.
Thus, Moldova will purchase 100 MW band (24/24 hours) in the first three months of this year. The volume is almost thrice bigger against December 2024, when Energocom bought 30 MW.
Energocom informed that the price of energy from Nuclearelectrica was preferential, in order to cover the necessary amount for Moldova’s end consumers, capped by an emergency ordinance of Romania’s government to 400 Romanian lei/MWh or about 80 euros/MWh. ‘’It is about a solid and concrete support on behalf of the Bucharest authorities for Moldova,’’ Energocom said.
According to statistics data unveiled by Energocom, during the winter months, the quantity of electric energy produced by the heating power stations from Chisinau and Balti cover 25-30 per cent of the necessary quantity for the right bank of Dniester. The electricity contracted from Nuclearelectrica will provide an even bigger quantity of energy, to which the energy produced by renewable sources is added, which depends on the weather conditions. During the peak hours, the necessary amount of consumption is supplied with energy bought from the OPCOM Romanian exchange.
