Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has said that she had full confidence in the current government led by Dorin Recean and that she expected from the cabinet to continue the reforms underway. At the same time, the head of state said the government members were chosen based on the meritocracy and that there were no political obstacles for the appointment of ministers or heads of agencies. ‘’If the man is honest and professional, then there is every openness,’’ Maia Sandu said at a news conference given today.
The Moldovan president stressed that the present cabinet led by PM Dorin Recean had to manage a complicated situation during this winter. Maia Sandu gave assurances that this government would be kept in continuation, as it enjoys full confidence on behalf of the country’s president. ‘’This government has my full confidence. This government has to manage a quite complicated situation during this winter and this government has to improve things in more sectors, just as the citizens requested, within the limit of the resources we have. We are in an economically complicated situation from the viewpoint of the security, energy and this government must maintain the stability and continue the reforms underway,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The head of state gave assurances that the cabinet members were selected based on meritocracy and there were no political criteria in their appointment. According to Maia Sandu, the governance is open for the honest and professional people. ‘’The people appointed in the government have been appointed based on the meritocracy, since they have been in this position. There were no negotiations on one or another person. There were situations when people whom we regarded as good for one or another office did not quite give their agreement to come, people from the private sector, for instance. But we have never put the problem that, look, there is a quite fit man for this ministry or for this agency and we do not appoint him/her for political reasons. If the man is honest and professional, then there is every openness,’’ the president said.
„There are no political limits that, if a man is not party member, he/she has no chances to get in the government. We are open for all those who want to come to give a helping hand,’’ Maia Sandu added.
The government led by Dorin Recean was sworn in office on 16 February 2023 with the votes of 62 MPs. In his speech given in the parliament’s plenum, PM Dorin Recean referred to the principal priorities of the governing plan: ensuring the discipline and order in the state’s institutions, economic development, ensuring Moldova’s peace and stability. Also, at the taking over of the mandate, Recean said that the government would focus its efforts on the consolidation of the energy sector.
