Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will help Moldova overcome the new challenge in the energy sector, just as it did in the past, when it strengthened the Energocom stock company, as well as other entities in the energy sector. A senior expert in the energy sector, team leader for this field at USAID Moldova Michael Boyd has made statements to this effect at a meeting with representatives of the Energocom’s leadership.
The acting director of Energocom, Eugeniu Buzatu, said that, at present, the biggest challenge was the allocation of the capacity for electric energy at the border with Romania, as Moldova is connected to the ENTSO-E European network in bloc with Ukraine, the energy system of which is hit by the Russian bombardments, and for this reason, the neighbour country has often deficit of electricity.
„In this respect, the Energocom leadership holds discussions with diverse partners, in order to be able to make more imports at competitive prices from Romania,’’ reads a press release by Energocom.
Michael Boyd said that the USAID experts would back both Energocom and Moldova in approaching the difficulties in the sector quickly.
Since 2022, USAID Moldova has been helping Energocom through two projects: Moldova Energy Security Activity Project (MESA) and Connect for Growth (C4G). Thus, USAID donated IT equipment to the enterprise and also contributed to the improvement of the trade with energy and improvement of the risks management.
