Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, today explained how the authorities planned to provide the consumption of electric energy on the right bank of Dniester starting from 1 January 2025, if the Kuchurgan power station (MGRES) ceases the deliveries.
Daniel Voda stressed that the citizens would be provided with electric energy, both from domestic production sources and from import. At the same time, it is important that the citizens rationally use the energy resources and enforce actions of saving the energy.
As for the domestic production, Daniel Voda noted that the Termoelectrica stock company and CET Nord would cover the basis of consumption of about 200 MW; at the same time, there are reserves to enhance the production capacity. The Costesti-Stanca hydro-electric power station will deliver up to 10 MW in band.
Based on the external contracts, Moldova will buy 100 MW from the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant (Romania) at capped price. Another 100 MW will be contracted from the Brazi Station (OMV Petrom) and up to 200 MW of power will be purchased from the OPCOM exchange of Romania for peaks of consumption.
Another source of covering the consumption represents the renewables; in this respect, Moldova has a variable production between 50 MW and 150 MW, depending on the weather conditions. ‘’The capacity installed will overcome 600 MW in January 2025. The renewables will make a big difference in the long run,’’ Daniel Voda said.
At the same time, the Net Transfer Capacities (NTC) from ENTSO-E, guaranteed for Moldova, is of 315 MW and the possibility to use lines of 110 kV with Romania adds over 100 MW.
The spokesman for the government said that all measures taken ensured the uninterrupted consumption; yet, at the same time, the authorities resort to the solidarity of the citizens and companies, in order to save energy in the peak hours. According to Voda, it is necessary to cut the consumption by 60 MW in the peak hours, especially in the morning, between 7:00 and 11:00 and in the evening in the time interval 18:00-23:00.
Emergency state was established all over Moldova starting from 16 December for 60 days, given potential risks of insufficiency of energy resources.
The authorities launched a campaign, Save Energy – Pay Less, through which the citizens are informed about a string of actions which can help them save the energy resources. At the same time, the Energy Ministry issued a circular letter to the central and local public authorities, with an urge to enforce concrete measures of optimizing the consumption of energy at the public institutions.
