Moldova prepares for integrating its electric energy market into European market

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova joins the Local Implementation Project (LIP) for the integration of its spot electric energy market into the European market. The Energy Ministry informed that it represented another important step for the liberalization of the electric energy market, as well as for its connection to the single European network.
The project was launched by the market operators and transport operators from Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, in order to facilitate the integration into the single European energy market.
The Local Implementation Project regards the preparation of the energy market from Moldova for integration into the Single Day-ahead Coupling (SDAC) and the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC). The project’s goal regard the exchange of information, improvement of the legal framework, as well as the implementation itself of joint organizational and technical solutions for the integration into the EU market. In the context, the procedures, instruments and processes necessary for the coupling of the electric energy markets are to be elaborated, tested and enforced.
In February 2024, the Energy Market Operator M (OPEM), subsidiary of the electric energy market of Romania OPCOM, was nominated as electric energy market operator from Moldova. In March 2024, the National Energy regulatory Agency (ANRE) provided the licence needed for the work of OPEM.
The Energy Ministry said that the implementation of the organized electric energy markets would allow trading electric energy for short term, through day-after markets and the day market, at variable prices on different periods. Also, the integration of the national market into the European network will facilitate the trading of electric energy with the partners from the European Union.
