Moldovan president conveys message to Georgian people

Chisinau, 29 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Sandu today conveyed a message on support for the Georgian people on the X platform, in the context of the political crisis in Georgia.

„Today, as always, we are with the people of Georgia in their fight for freedom, democracy and a European future. Your courage and determination inspire all of us and Moldova stays with you on this common way,’’ Maia Sandu wrote.

The situation is tense in Georgia following a ballot for the election of the president, contested by the opposition. The new president of Georgia, Mikhail Kavelashvili, is to be sworn in office today. The former head of state, Salome Zurabishvili, refused to recognize the result of the polls and described the voting as ‘’illegitimate.’’ Thousands of Georgians took to street, making a human chain, as a token of protest against what they describe as a threat to the country’s democracy.
