Parliament announced contest to select candidates for membership of European Committee for Prevention of Torture

Chisinau, Dec. 30 /MOLDPRES/- Parliament has announced a contest to select candidates for the position of member of the European Committee for Prevention of Torture (CPT). Applicants can submit files by 24 January 2025.

According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, candidates for the position of CPT member must cumulatively meet several conditions. These include Moldovan citizenship; irreproachable professional and moral reputation; a bachelor's degree and specialized studies in a field of activity relevant to the application of the Convention; thorough knowledge of English or French.

The special parliamentary committee will examine the applications and decide which candidates will be admitted for interview. 

The Republic of Moldova ratified CPT in 1997 and, as a member state, has a representative in CPT. CPT members are elected by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, by an absolute majority of votes, from the list drawn up by the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
