Sports federations with results at Olympic, Paralympic and World Games to get extra funding for next 4 years

Chisinau, Dec 30 /MOLDPRES/- The participation of sports federations in major international competitions, such as the Olympic, Paralympic or World Games will be financially remunerated annually for a period of 4 years. The Cabinet of Ministers today approved a decision to this effect, the government's communication department has reported.

Thus, each federation that had athletes at the last edition of the Olympic or Paralympic Games will be paid 200 thousand lei and 100 thousand lei - for each participating athlete. Also, for participation in the World Games, the amount will be 100 thousand lei for each sports federation and 50 thousand lei for each participating athlete.

The draft provides for the amendment of the distribution of funds, depending on the performances obtained at international competitions, as well as an increase in the reserve funds to cover exceptional costs from 15% to 20%.

By the draft, the government aims to improve the funding mechanism for performance sport, support athletes with performance potential and ensure a fairer and more transparent system for distributing funds.

The amendments will take effect from 1 January 2025.
