Spokesman for Moldova's government says well-being, safety of citizens on left bank of Dniester stay priority

Chisinau, 30 December /MOLDPRES/ - The spokesman for the government,  Daniel Voda, today conveyed a video message to the residents on the left bank of Dniester. He said that Gazprom’s decision to cease the gas deliveries as of 1 January 2025 was a new example of how Russia uses the energy as weapon. At the same time, he noted that the decision brought serious risks to the well-being of the citizens from the region. Voda said that the Moldovan authorities firmly condemned such actions and looked for solutions to reduce their impact on the people.    

„Dear residents from the left bank of Dniester, Gazprom’s decision to cease the deliveries of gas starting from 1 January 2025 represents a new example on how Russia uses energy as weapon. But the ordinary people should not become hostages of this decision. It brings serious risks to your well-being and we firmly condemn such actions. In these difficult times, we stand with you,’’ Daniel Voda said.    

„We warned in advance”

Daniel Voda said that the Moldovan authorities had warned in advance about the existing risks. ‘’We were the first to draw attention to such scenarios and we took all measures needed, in order to be prepared to help you. Along with our international partners, our friends, we already work to bring humanitarian assistance: generators, medicines and other essential resources,’’ the spokesman for the government also said.  

„Education is our priority”

Daniel Voda noted that decision-makers did their best for the schools to remain opened and children continue their education. Thus, each school benefits from individual solutions and the school syllabi and textbooks, including in the Russian language, can be downloaded online.  

„We take care of your health”

Daniel Voda also said that the medical assistance stayed accessible for those who need it and the authorities had ensured the access to the emergency medical services, including through quick interventions of ambulances.   

„We are on your side”

In his message, the spokesman for the government also said that the Moldovan authorities were looking for solutions to reduce the impact of the emerged situation and provide the people with support. ‘’We understand that it is difficult for you. Even though those who promised you stability abandoned you, Moldova is ready to help you. We look for solutions to reduce the impact of these actions and to provide you with the support necessary,’’ Daniel Voda informed.   

„We will not allow a humanitarian catastrophe”

At the same time, Daniel Voda stressed that Moldova would not allow a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. ‘’Your well-being and safety stay a priority for us. We continue to work for peace and stability in the region. We stand and we will stand with you – at present and always,’’ Daniel Voda added.  

President Maia Sandu today summoned a meeting on the situation in the energy sector, with the participation of MP Dorin Recean, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.  Following the meeting, Maia Sandu informed that the government, along with the development partners had prepared a plan for the providing of humanitarian aid to the citizens on the left banks of Dniester.
