Termoelectrica to produce 26% of Moldova's electricity consumption as of 1 January 2025

Chisinau, Dec 31 /MOLDPRES/- From 1 January 2025, Termoelectrica will produce 26% of Moldova's electricity consumption. The enterprise assured that all three energy blocks are operating normally and announced that it is ready to cope with the current situation and ensure optimal and continuous operation of the managed production sources.
According to Termoelectrica, until the establishment of the state of emergency, the company annually delivered more than 660 million kWh or 16% of the country's total consumption (excluding the Transnistrian region) to the national power system. Currently, Termoelectrica is operating in the standard regime and produces about 180 MW of electricity, and from January 1, 2025, it will produce 26% of the country's electricity consumption.
Termoelectrica's director Iurie Razlovan reported to the government the additional production capacities of the enterprise in order to ensure continuous heat and electricity supply to Chisinau municipality.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that "Termoelectrica is ready to provide Chisinau with heat, as is its responsibility". "We have discussed those scenarios and they will prepare and increase their capacity, including to produce more electricity, if necessary. So, to be clear, for the provision of thermal energy, Termoelectrica has sufficient capacities and, in case of need, it will increase capacities including for additional electricity production," the premier said.
Dorin Recean noted that in the current conditions, it is important to fully utilize own capacities for electricity production and import.
Termoelectrica carried out during 2024 extensive modernization and maintenance works on the thermotechnical equipment involved in the process of producing thermal and electrical energy in cogeneration.
At the same time, the company has back-up equipment that can be used to ensure the continuous production process in the event of malfunctions and breakdowns.
