Moldovan deputy parliament speaker says 2025 first year when Moldova can become 100 per cent energy independent

Chisinau, 2 January /MOLDPRES/ - The independence is not easy and its costs. Our neighbours pay with human lives and daily tragedies. We – with higher invoices. Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman has made statements to this effect.  

The deputy parliament speaker noted that Moldova ‘’entered the New Year with care, as well as with confidence.’’ ‘’This is the first year when we can become 100-per cent energy independent. The independence is not easy. And it costs. Our neighbours pay with human lives and daily tragedies. We – with higher invoices. Several months ago, a terrible lie was distributed, alleging that a military mobilization was prepared in Moldova. The only mobilization to which we are called is to responsibly consume the electric energy. And to preserve our unity and humanity,’’ Gherman opined.      

She also said that each of us can make the difference and urged the citizens to save energy. ‘’We cannot change the things globally, especially when they do not depend on us, but can make the difference. Each one, at his/her place. We should turn off a lamp, so that the others do not steal the light – of the future and of the eyes. And in this way, we should show that Moldova is able,’’ Doina Gherman added.  

The Russian giant Gazprom suspended the supply of natural gas to Moldovagaz as of 1 January 2025, 08:00, (Moscow time). Given the potential humanitarian crisis in the Transnistrian region because of the non-observance by Russia on the contract on deliveries of natural gas to the consumers on the left bank of Dniester, Moldova has been in an emergency state starting from 16 December 2024.
