Moldovan law-enforcers detain man convicted in One-Billion-dollar Theft file

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - A man sentenced to five years of imprisonment in the One-billion-dollar Theft file has been detained by officers of the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI).
According to the Police, the man, aged 43 years, was put on a wanted list. The Chisinau Court of Appeal convicted this man on 23 November 2023. The man was acting as accomplice, ensuring the work of a commercial enterprise in Moldova in the interests of a crime ring.
According to the file’s materials, the defendant participated in the laundering of particularly large sums of money, amounting to more than 2.5 billion lei, purloined through swindle from the banking system of Moldova.
The defendant was recognized s guilty of the committing of the offence in the One-billion-dollar Theft file and sentenced to five years of imprisonment.
