Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry rejects statements launched by Russian Embassy on energy crisis in Transnistrian region

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) rejects statements launched in the public space by Russia’s Embassy in Moldova, which accuse Chisinau of the energy crisis in the Transnistrian region and instructed the summoning of Russia’s representative.

MAE describes the actions of the Russian Embassy as ‘’dangerous misinformation,’’ in an attempt to deviate the responsibility for a crisis which Moscow triggered itself. ‘’We categorically condemn the fake statements, meant to divide the society from Moldova and to hide the true origin of the energy crisis from the Transnistrian region. This is a cynical attempt to manipulate the public opinion and put the blame on Chisinau or on Kiev, while the true responsibility lies exclusively with Moscow,’’ the MAE’s communique reads.

MAE says that the responsibility for the deliveries of gas to the Transnistrian region fully lies with Russia and the Gazprom giant, which chose not to observe their contractual obligations and not to provide viable solutions, in order to ensure the continuity of the deliveries of gas. ‘’The decision to cease the deliveries is a strictly political one, in order to destabilize Moldova.  Any attempt to assign this responsibility to other sides is not only false, but also deeply cynical,’’ the communique also reads.

Moldova’s government has proved, through concrete actions, that it is committed to back the citizens on both banks of Dniester, including on difficult periods, such as the cold season. ‘’Our country firmly condemns the provocative rhetoric and the dangerous insinuations concerning a presumed ‘’forcible settlement’’ of the Transnistrian file. Moldova stays firmly committed in the peaceful reintegration of the country, through dialogue and observance of its sovereignty and territorial integrity,’’ MAE said.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry insistently demands that Russia’s Embassy immediately ceases the misinformation campaign, which harms even more the bilateral relations and worsens the regional situation.
