Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - Metropolitan of Bessarabia and Exarch of the Territories, Most Right Reverend Peter has conveyed blessed thoughts to the clergy and believers from Bessarabia, on the occasion of the Birth of God Holiday.
In his message, Most Right Reverend Peter called on each Christian to experience the joy of Christmas through faith, prayer and charity deeds, just as Jesus Christ taught us.
„We should rejoice together at the Birth of the Infant God, who brings the peace and light to our souls. On this holy period, we urge you to multiply the prayer, to read the Holy Scripture and to participate in Holy Services. The sincere prayer and the charity are pleasant gifts before God. We should give people in need good words, material assistance or a prayer, thus fulfilling the words of the Savior,’’ Most Right Reverend Peter said.
The old-style Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Birth of God (Christmas), which is one of the Twelve Great Feasts of the year, being preceded by a 40-day Christmas Fast. Liturgies are officiated in the churches from all over Moldova on this occasion.
The Birth of God is a family holiday, focused on prayer, spirituality and the happiness of the Birth of the Savior.
To allow everybody to celebrate in the family, the authorities took the decision to declare the days of 25 December, as well as 7 and 8 January as days off.
