Chisinau, Jan 9 /MOLDPRES/- Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region are online. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement today. He paid a visit to the Security Zone, together with Head of State Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.

The premier said that Chisinau authorities are looking for solutions so that localities in the Security Zone can be provided with generators or biomass boilers so that public institutions can continue their work. "The schools are being brought online and we will continue this as far as possible because we also have to take into account the electricity disconnection schedule on the left bank of the Dniester. On the right bank of the Dniester, most schools are functioning. For the left bank, we will provide as much as possible, until the electricity and natural gas networks are connected, we will provide either generators or - in a slightly longer term - thermal energy from biomass boilers," said Recean.

As regards the situation at Lucian Blaga High School in Tiraspol, the Prime Minister said that the authorities will first of all check to what extent it will be possible to organize the children's travel to other places so that they can continue their studies.

Maia Sandu and Dorin Recean are today paying a working visit to the Security Zone, together with Oleg Serebrian. The officials will meet with local authorities, community leaders and residents of the affected villages.

Russian Gazprom has suspended gas deliveries to Moldovagaz since January 1. All the gas that had been supplied by Gazprom until January 1 was directed to Tiraspoltransgaz. Gazprom's decision to cut off gas supplies to the Transnistrian region has seriously affected several localities in the Security Zone, which are not directly connected to the energy networks on the right bank of the Dniester.

According to the data of the Government Crisis Cell, on the left bank, the volume of energy produced by MGRES/Cuciurgan power plant and Dubasari hydroelectric power plant is insufficient, and there is an acute shortage. Under these circumstances, as of January 7, 2025, scheduled power outages lasting 8 hours are taking place in the Transnistrian region throughout the entire territory of the region. Disconnections are announced for today, January 9, in the intervals 08:00 - 12:00 and 16:00 - 20:00 for part of the population and between 12:00 - 16:00 and 20:00 - 00:00 for another part.

On January 6, the Commission for Emergency Situations ordered Premier Energy to connect the villages of Varnița and Copanca to its network. At the same time, 14 localities will be integrated into the natural gas distribution networks of the licensed operators of Moldovagaz. The government has also provided humanitarian aid, including fuel supplies and generators, to support residents affected by the energy crisis.
